Eyes of Sedona is a spiritual photographic story that uses elements of over two hundred unique anthropomorphic formations discovered in and around Sedona, Arizona, as a vehicle to explore their hidden messages. The story's figurative narrator, Sedona, emerges from the rocks to tell the story, her form apparent in the book's keystone image. She appeals to the reader's natural compassion and curiosity, presenting human-like identities and concepts relating to humanity's history, culture and future.

The author, Lance Kaufman, crafted the story from the series of photographs he captured while exploring the unusual terrain of the red rocks that attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The pictures presented in Eyes of Sedona are purposefully organized to support Sedona's claim that she did indeed come from another place and time as part of the ongoing continuum of life. Mr. Kaufman's use of the first person yields a unique and compelling narrative; by directly addressing the reader with his poetic prose, he establishes a personal connection to Sedona, the character, and Sedona, the place, provoking the reader to consider the life-like identity of the land.

Ultimately, Eyes of Sedona is an appeal to humanity that these formations be preserved for future generations. In exchange for this stewardship, Sedona states that humankind will be able to discover the ancient messages of the formations provided by Mother Nature. It is the author's hope that, once the reader integrates the pictures, messages and text, they will forever want to protect these sacred lands.
